Do you daydream?

“We can choose to live life simply by default. We can accept each day for whatever it is, settle for the life that ‘happens’ to us. (Technically, this CAN be done mindfully, with peace and happiness.)”

This concept from my last blog motivated a lot of personal reflection on my part.

I don’t like “throwaway thoughts,” could this have been one of those?

My goal is to avoid sounding judgmental or unnecessarily critical, whenever possible. Could this concept have been overly motivated only by that concern?

The honest answer I have come up with, to this point, is no; the concept definitely holds true

do believe it is possible to accept each and every day for whatever it is, mindfully and with peaceful happiness. Do I believe I can assist or guide anyone in the techniques required to master that, no; no, I do not. I believe it takes the mindset, heart, and soul of a Buddha or Christ (examples limited by my exposure, not the exclusivity of their example) to accomplish such an existence.

There’s unfortunately a pesky part of the mind that negotiates between the conscious and the unconscious known as the ‘ego’ that, for most, gets in the way. Don’t misunderstand, I am not simply speaking about being egotistical, or even just having a healthy self-esteem. (The absolute lack of ego can, and will, lead to as many troubling problems as the existence of an overly inflated one.) Balance, in all thingsIS required!

I certainly believe there is a lot we can all benefit from accepting what each day is, rather than being bitter or disappointed in what it isn’t. Since the mid 90’s I have chosen to say, ‘enjoy your day’ rather than ‘have a good day.’ The first is something you either take responsibility for creating yourself, or you cosmically accept with gratitude and an open heart from the universe. The typical, ‘have a good day’ is just a passive idea that implies good days (and therefore bad days) are waiting to be experienced; rather than being created or recognized, they simply occur – to us. Wouldn’t that make us, essentially, victims of our days?

Ever since then, I have tried to practice my hardest to ‘cosmically accept with gratitude and an open heart’ my experience of each and every day. With varying levels of success, I have made it about 25 years following this mantra; I will never let it go!

My recent realization regarding this tangent, however; is, that nagging part of me that says I’m not living up to my potential, that I’m not being who I was meant to be, may not actually be the narcissistic side of the negotiator, my ego. It may truly be my motivator, nudging me to finally ‘take responsibility for creating,’ more than I have been.

And that is what brings me back to ‘as simple as 1, 2, 3.’

My last blog was regarding the importance of our imagination. In truth, we are either using our imagination to our benefit or to our detriment. This is one of the most important things to understand!

Some like to think they don’t have any imagination at all…before they go on a detailed description of all of their worst worries and fears. If you can imagine the worst, YOU CAN IMAGINE THE BEST!

What we focus on grows.

Don’t believe me? Think about your left foot for just a second. Focus specifically on your big toe on your left foot. Notice the position it is in, the way it feels; really take a moment to notice what your big toe on your left foot is communicating to you. Does it itch? Is it tense, pinching the surface it is touching; or, is it relaxed and loose? Is it more hot or more cold? Is it completely comfortable, or is it just a bit fidgety? Were you aware of any of that a moment ago?

Your focus will intensify whatever is going on, or whatever you think is going on, or even whatever you tell yourself is going on. Use this knowledge wisely!

Notice, I am not suggesting your left toe becomes your right toe?

Recognize the realistic side to imagination, to realize its true power!

Many can put a lot of imagination (and energy) into quite realistic negative outcomes, in preparation for their ‘worst-case scenario.’ It can be seen as a way of ‘preparing, just in case.’ It can even be thought of as the only way to avoid the feared outcome all together. In truth, this will actually increase the likelihood of the unwanted outcome; because, laying the foundation through imaginary preparation is essentially setting a game plan for your brain to follow.

The problem many face in this paradigm shifting exercise is how they engage their imagination toward the positive. Instead of laying out a few perfectly feasible outcomes that would be preferred to the worst-case-scenario, many unfortunately turn to an unrealistic and childish aspect of daydreaming. That side of the imagination we remember from childhood, when literally anything at all was possible

This isn’t a completely unhelpful aspect of the imagination; it simply isn’t the most useful, especially in the very beginning. My next blog will delve deeply into how we can engage our imaginations for our greatest benefit, rather than allowing it to unconsciously work to our disadvantage!

Thank you for joining me along this journey of universal self-discovery to manifest the best in each of our potential; we are the world that we create, together!

Remember to go kindly and be super, with yourself first; then, with the world around you and beyond.
